Forum Summary

 

From 1 Aug 2015, all new mobile cranes must be fitted with black boxes (just like aeroplanes) to record operation data for incident / accident investigations.

 

Existing mobile cranes must be fitted with such black boxes by 1 Aug 2018.

 

WSH Council will subsidise up to half the cost of installing a black box, capped at S$5000 for each crane. Funding is on a first-come-first serve basis.

Contributing factors to incidents / accidents due to :

1) Lack of situational awareness,

2) Distractions, inattention during performing tasks,

3) Perception / limitations,

4) Failure to ask "What If" questions.   

STEP (Slips, Trips Evaluation Programme) trial would be launched in 2015.
